Alsan
C.S. Lewis’s lion Aslan is such a powerful character because he symbolizes God. My favorite parts of the Narnia books are Aslans interactions with Lucy. Lucy follows Alsan with such a childlike faith. In Prince Caspian, she sees Aslan because of her faith but no one at the time could see Alsan and did not believe her sighting of him. This leads her to doubt. After that scene the four children and the dwarf they are traveling with head out to a different destination. When they camp for the night, Lucy has trouble sleeping and is captivated by the trees and the way she feels Aslan is near and speaking to her through them. When she finally meets Aslan, she tells him how the others didn’t believe her when she really did see him. Aslan is angered by this response. Lucy’s faith is none but her own. It was so childlike, real, pure, genuine and most importantly intimate. However, she let the opinions of other come before Aslan and her belief in him really being there. This is just a beautiful picture of how Jesus calls us to have childlike faith, because when our faith is no longer childlike, then we loose sight of the Lord and our purpose in Him.
