C.S. Lewis’ The Silver Chair tells the story of Jill, Eustace, and Puddlegum as they embark on a journey to find the lost prince. This tale is not merely an adventure, but a journey with a purpose. Various aspects of spiritual journey as described in Michael Graves “Journey Symbol” can be seen throughout The Silver Chair. This journey symbol consists of six main elements, which are “a call, a conversion, divine assistance and guidance, encounters with obstacles, and ultimate success”. Jill and Eustace are called into the land of Narnia by Aslan, Jill experiences a conversion in trusting Aslan, and all three travelers receive guidance from Aslan along the way. The three travelers also encounter many obstacles along the way, but in the end reach the ultimate success by returning to Narnia with the lost prince.
