David Thornton - Perelandra/Space

Perelandra struck me first as I was reading of Ransom’s first experience in space. The majority of humans know nothing outside of their earthly experience. Everything they have experienced and know is subject to the time and space of their earthly life. For Ransom, or any astronaut for that matter, to leave earth was something that made me put the book down and think about. To imagine leaving this earth is a strange and very weird thought I can still not quite wrap my mind around. Considering how Ransom handles this event, I was taken aback by the simple awe that took over him for such an expanse of time that he spent of the spaceship. He talks of staring at the light particles and the way in which they change the physical feelings of his body. Ultimately, an experience outside of all that one has experienced in the past is breath-taking and unlike anything I've ever concieved.
