“I spoke to the gods myself, alone, in such a words as came to me, not in a temple, and without a sacrifice. I stretched myself face downward on the floor and called upon them with my whole heart.”
People, even non-religious one, seem to go to God and call him in their times of need, when they hit rock bottom. I would say that at times this could seem to be insincere since they don’t know who they are talking to or doing it without a faith behind the actions. But, in a sense, falling at the feet of god in desperation is truly glorifying to Him, no matter how its done. In the Bible it says, “his strength is made perfect in weakness”. It is funny how not our strength or successes are glorifying, but the opposite, our weaknesses and failures, are instead. Because it is those failures which make Gods work shine brighter and then, ironically, make us even more successful in the end. I feel that in her moment of desperation and whole-hearted prayer Orual has the chance to be the most successful, but when things are not done her way (not true submission) she takes it back. She decides she has to take matters into her own hands.
