The Koran and Islam-Elissa Wilcox

I took a class on Islam this semester, in which we were required to read the Koran. I had never read it before and it was astonishing how many verses were similar to the Bible. However, as I was reading through he verses that were revealed to by God to Muhammad I could not help noticing that the truth behind them seemed to be lost. Even though some of the concepts were the same as those portrayed in the Bible the meaning was missing. It is interesting that the true message of the Koran has been so warped. Extremists have taken many of the verses and misinterpreted them in order for them to fit their political beliefs. Religion may be politics, but faith is something completely different. Religion is full of rules, this is what Islam is. Although prayer is a large part of the religion, the government is Muslim as well as the religion. Therefore there is no distinction between one's faith and one's politics. This provides the opportunity for someone to warp the meaning of the Koran in a certain way in order for their message to be supported. Although the Koran in itself is not a bad or evil book, the way it is interpreted has led to many evil things. America, including Christians, have developed many beliefs about Islam that are not true, but they believe them to be factual.
