My Choice-Screwtape Letters-Melissa Faller

Screwtape letters is a popular book written by C.S. Lewis. The Screwtape letters is most intriguing because it is written from the devils perspective. Through out the book Screwtape, with the help of the devil, attempts to get humans to commit sins such as sex, love, pride gluttony, and greed. The book is different than the typical Christian books written around the same time. It introduces is bold in the way that the devil and his advocates are the main characters. C.S. Lewis also does a great explaining one particular way the devil works. Lewis explains through Screwtape letters that the “safest path to hell is the gradual one.” This is different than most Christian teachings that the devils ultimate goal is to tempt individuals to sin, however Lewis is suggesting that the devil is attempting to confuse and individual so much so that he is successful into tempting them. This process is so gradual that it practically becomes second nature.
This resonated with me because I feel that often times in society that humans convince themselves that sins are okay because they are happening around us all the time. Some examples of this can be seen in the media, such as Katy Perry's song I kissed a girl. Little Girls of all ages are watching this video and listening to this song and they are absorbing this activity as a normal one. It is instances like these that I feel that C.S. Lewis was trying to prevent though his writing The Screwtape Letters.
