I have enjoyed the reading within this class immensely. Everything we read makes me filled with the exact sehnsuit that has been studied. The Narnia series is so tied together with my own childhood experience that re-reading the stories makes me feel like a child once again. I do not idealize my childhood by any means, but now that I have entered into university as an Interdisciplinary- English and Philosophy- I feel that much of my preferred readings such as fairy tales, are put to the wayside in place of academic texts or psychological novels which drain the reader in spite of their beauty.
Fairy-tales hold such a special place within my heart that the times throughout this semester that I needed a break I could read Narnia, or the Space Trilogy and feel at home. It is amazing how even the academic reading of your favorite authors can feel like you are having a chat with a particularly insightful friend. This is how I feel when I sit down with any writing done by Lewis or Tolkien. It is like fatherly advice, or an entering into a time of relaxation that hardly ever comes during the hectic times of college semesters. I am also grateful for the chance to study Lewis more in depth. I always knew, somewhat, the extent of his insight, but now I feel I know it more fully.
