Poetry, Gospel, and Longing - Hannah Grimes

“Poetry replaces grammar, gospel replaces law, longing transforms obedience.” (C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory)

I want to live a life that exudes poetry, not grammar. I want to be filled up with love and desire for the glory of God, not stuck in bondage to rules that can never set me free. I want my existence to be driven by a longing for eternity and to live in a way that reflects my hope for the future. I want to follow God out of reckless love and abandon.

I can’t write poetry if I’m worried about grammar. I can’t experience the freedom of the gospel if I am trying to save myself by doing everything right. My life can’t be transformed unless I long for the One who can change me.
