Turkish Delight : Lindsay Conrad
Lewis writes of Turkish Delight in The Lion, the Witch, and the WArdrobe and gives and eerie display of yearning for a sinful treat. I think it is interesting because the willpower of Edmund is so warped when Turkish Delight is the goal. It is an interesting comparison that Lewis makes to temptations. Though we are to be of the spirit, the temptations of the flesh are so often a downfall because they are tangible first and foremost. They are also immediate satisfaction and something that can truly be marked off as accomplished. I feel so often we fall short because our greatest desire is to feel God, but when we cannot, we will find a tangible alternative to satisfy our hunger for the holy. Our desire to know and to be in control causes us to lack the discipline and faith to be concerned more with serving God and we get stuck serving ourselves. This downfall can take so many different forms. Knowledge, food, sex, money, and possessions can all be items that we replace with the desire to serve what is right and good. All these things are desirable like the concept of Turkish Delight. To have more and better is what we seek to fill our souls, but we are always caught empty and alone as we stray fromt he promise God has for us.
