Amy Jackson- Rest
How do you rest? The idea of rest today has been construed into busying yourself with things that you want to do. Watching t.v., playing games, reading, eating are often ways people rest. I think people can find rest in these things, but is there a type of rest that is more simple than this? Could it be just being? God says, "Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). Be still? How do I do that? The idea of not doing anything is considered laziness in our culture. However, when it is intentional it is the opposite. Just being alone can be scary for some people, myself included. It means being with your thoughts. When resting outside, one can find beauty in nature that we often overlook everyday. Rest is essential. Some people only participate in it one week out of the year when they lie on the beach of some Caribbean island. God rested. Is that not enough of a reason for us to rest? He set aside a day, the sabbath, for us to purposefully rest. It is not an option, but necessary. Why? I think we need to enjoy life before it is gone. We need to not get caught up in the things we "have to do" but find out who we are in the things we want to do.
