Amy Jackson- "we listen to know we are not alone"
In the film Shadowlands, Lewis' student quotes his dad when he says, "we read to know we are not alone." When we read, we find people of similar thoughts, experiences, or views as us. It is a way to publicly share your heart and mind. How does this statement relate to other medias? I could say, "we speak to know we are not alone." If this is true, which I think it is, this is how friendships are formed. Therefore, when we read, it is easy to judge witch of the authors you think you might be friends with if you ever met. For me, music is the media that I most easily see that I am not alone. When I listen to some songs, there is something inside of me that makes me relate to the musician. This also works for the musician. When I play guitar with someone who is playing guitar, or any instrument, I feel united to them. I know that I'm not alone because we are playing in the same key. We each have our own parts, just as important, that when we come together, a beautiful melody is created. When playing, the direction the song goes is often spontaneous. It is not discussed beforehand, which makes connection even greater between the musicians.
