Eric Morgan- Christianity and Myth
“What flows into you from the myth is not truth but reality (truth is always about something, but reality is that about which truth is), and, therefore, every myth becomes the father of innumerable truths on the abstract level.” (Lewis 63-67) Myth for Lewis is a completely different thing than the definition of myth in the world today. Myth seems to me to be a fictitious story that simply has a purpose of entertainments, and some allegory to real life situations. But Lewis sees myth as more real than truth. Truth as said above is simply about something where myth is about what truth is. I thought this was very interesting and when applying this to Christianity it made me think of the Gospels in a whole new light. It shows the reality of Jesus living with us today. We can see the miraculous life as a reality instead of simply an allegory to how to live life. Seeing the Gospels as a myth shows their reality and through it Christianity can be seen as a lifestyle as opposed to a good influence.
