Out of the Silent Planet - Melissa Marazzi

It seems man is in a constant pursuit for “more.” More satisfaction, more love, more fun, more excitement, more power. Whatever it may be, man seems to be in a continuous stretch to reach that “more.” What happens when that more is reached? He wants more yet again. That is the selfish nature of man; to constantly pursue his own desires and want as much of it as he can get. The hrossa seemed to have conquered this downfall by surpassing it entirely. They do not crave more but are perfectly satisfied with the lot they are given; they are thoroughly contented with a single experience. Beyond that is where they really find joy in their experience. The memory left behind is more valuable to them than experiencing any great moment multiple times. They are not bound by the need for more. Lewis captures in Out of the Silent Planet this great misgiving of man well and illustrates how we hinder ourselves, even from achieving joy, perhaps.
