Eric Morgan- David and Goliath

This morning when I was reading the bible I came across a story that reminded me of this class. The story was of David and Goliath. David is depicted through scripture as a smaller man not very impressive physically, he also during this particular story was pretty young, not necessarily a child but probably a teenager. He in the story has to fight a giant of a man named Goliath. Now in the bible Goliath is depicted as a huge beast of a man and exaggerated in stature because it is physically impossible for there to be a giant on this earth. But either way the way the story is written it depicts Goliath as a giant and here David this mere teenager with only a sling shot is essentially thrown into battle with him. Now the myth that Goliath was a giant is what caught my eye. What I thought to my self at first was well this is simply an exaggeration for affect but, now I do not think it is that at all. I see this as complete reality. It is not necessarily truthful fact but it really got me into the story and gave me the ability to imagine the real danger that David was in. If the story were to saw that David had to fight a large man and he won the story would not be as spic and forgotten and the symbolism and reality of the story would have never been displayed. But, because Goliath was a giant the real danger and favor of Goliath was portrayed. This was a great find today and I owe it all to my new found view on myths from this class.
