St. Francis- Doug Savarie

Saint Francis once said, “Preach the Gospel always, and when necessary, use words.” Last night at Inter-Varsity, the speaker Eric Gambardella directed his message towards graduating seniors and talked about what it looks like to continue ministry after graduating from college. He made several good points throughout the forty five minutes that he spoke, but there was one point in particular that stuck with me. He mentioned this quote and talked about how many people see this quote, and instead of being encouraged, and fired up about it, they hide behind it. He said that people sometimes hear this and use it as an excuse to avoid talking friends, family, and anyone else about Jesus. Looking back, I can easily see this action in myself in the past. Though I have done my best to overcome it, I think that I still hide behind it sometimes, and I want to avoid that. This past year I have been working with College Young Life, leading a bible study for freshman guys, and I think that this has played a huge role in my overcoming my fear to talk about the bible. It has enabled me to be more bold in my faith, and though there is still much progress to be made, I am excited to see how this plays out after I graduate in December.
