Trains

I am sitting on the train to Philadelphia writing this blog post. I am thinking about this unconventional mode of travel, well at least these days. Everyone seems to have their own form and doesn’t need to rely on public transportation anymore, at least for long trips like this. I have arrived in DC and the train filled up. I wonder why this is. Are they more dependent in this particular city because of the Metro? I wonder if their trip is long, or short? I see businessmen, foreigners, students, all types of people. I wonder what their pasts are. Why are they headed north of the city where they once were, and on a Wednesday? So many questions that I will never know the answer to. Sometimes when I am on a train I feel as though I am going to mysterious destination. Although I am going home, which is the furthest thing from mysterious; I have been conditioned through stories to think this. The Polar Express brought the little boy to the North Pole because he had enough imagination to meet the famous Santa Clause. I wonder when I am going to get my hot chocolate? The Hogwarts express filled with witches and wizards made its way to Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry. For Harry, Hermione, Ron and the other first years this was this first time they would set foot on the campus. The shifting staircases and talking picture frames would soon blow their minds. And finally in The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe Peter, Edmond, Susan and Lucy would embark on a life changing adventure when they boarded the train to the professor’s house in the country. This magical effect trains have on my mind makes sense, I just hope I will never grow out of it.
