The difference between myth and reality- Elissa Wilcox

Myth is something that was very important to C.S. Lewis. He thrived on the meaning of myth and its influence in society. Not only was it important within itself, as a source of entertainment and learning, but Lewis believed that it was important to reality as well. What is the difference between myth and reality? In the Monday night film class we watched and discussed Big Fish, an interesting film to say the least. The basic premise was that a son was trying to find out the truth about his father's life because his father was a wonderful story teller. So wonderful in fact that many people did not know the truth behind most of his stories. At the end of the film the son realizes that his father's life happened very similarly to the way he described it, except that he added a few details, and really there was no way to separate the myth from reality. If myth and reality are so intertwined then what is the purpose of searching for truth? I think that truth is not as relative as people believe, but I do not know whether or not it is negative if myth and reality are intertwined together.
