I really enjoyed meeting at Nonna's this semester. I love that the course was designed to follow Lewis's meetings with the Inklings and the questions and critiques that arose from it. I was empowered when I got to read my story out loud to the class and got to experience the wonder of the myth I had created in Narnia.
This class inspires me to be a writer. I have always been told I have the gift of writing, and nothing would make me happier than to meet with my friends at a pub and write and discuss theology on the regular. A crazy lady who was a pastor (and my boss, unfortunately) DID have one good idea when she tried to start up a Bible study called HeBrews. The group met at Schooners and was able to discuss theology and the wonder of the Gospel, but in the comfort of a familiar place with good friends and good food.
I think the small groups of constructive criticism create a world of fantasy that allows us to reach well beyond our own potentials. I wonder if we had a class that provided feedback simply for story writing how effective it would be and how friendships would grow within the classroom. Maybe the friendships that were/are created in a class of such creativity will be the most lasting due to the honesty and concern fostered in the group.
