Accusation Against Orual - Elizabeth Roy

I am Ungit, the goddess of love, one of the main gods being accused by Orual, in that I am Psyche’s husband’s mother. I reject Orual’s accusation that I have caused her pain, that I have taken Psyche from her, and that she has been treated unfairly. Orual was warned by the priest of Ungit, by Bardia, by Psyche herself, and even by the Fox, despite the fact that he did not believe in the gods. Her attempt to force Psyche back to her side by threatening suicide was born out of only jealousy and a sheer stubborn will not to see what was right in front of her eyes. She has violated everything that she claimed to stand for and love– the customs of her land, her sister Psyche, her own honor, and the teachings of the Fox. This is why she has been made to bear the brunt of Psyche’s pain. But in addition, Orual herself has worked against the gods. She caused Psyche to be torn from her husband and worked against my temple and my priest. All the pain she has gone through she herself has caused – had she trusted Psyche (trust, which comes out of true love!) and respected Psyche’s will, Orual would never have tried to manipulate Psyche as she did, and Orual and Psyche would still have been able to be in contact with each other, fleeting and distant though it may be. Orual herself is her own enemy – not the gods.
