The Space Trilogy- Elissa Wilcox

This is in reference to page 122 in Perelandra. ransom is thinking about whether or not sin in the world could have been avoided if the serpent had been crushed before Eve gave into his temptation to eat the fruit that God told them not to eat. He questions what the point of temptation was. Temptation trains humans to learn their own strength and also learn where that strength fails. The place where that fails is there the need for God is seen. Without God, humanity would fall into temptation and stay there. Although without God there would be no temptation because there would be no idea about the difference between right and wrong and therefore everything would be normal and a part of life. It is through the strength that God provides that we are able to move forward into a place of forgiveness and peace. It is an interesting thought about the outcome of the tale, if the snake had been stopped before the temptation began. I don't think it would have changed the outcome because Satan is not literally a snake- that was just a symbol of his evil-he is a force that will exist until Judgment Day. Stopping the snake would not have stopped sin from entering the world.
