Aslan's Song- Elissa Wilcox
The symbol of Aslan singing the Earth into being is beautiful. I love that Lewis used song as the way for Narnia’s creation. Music is something that people from all nations and cultures can feel connected through. Although music differs drastically from one culture to another it is still a connecting thread that brings people together. I think that this is one reason that Lewis used that as the way Narnia was created because he was bringing Polly and Digory into the new world as well as creating the talking animals and beautiful plants. He was weaving two worlds together through his creation song. As Aslan sings and Narnia’s flowers, grass and trees start to pop up everywhere the beauty of Narnia is revealed. The importance of connecting with all different kinds of people on different levels is shown through Aslan’s choice to bring the wonderful, magical, place into being through song, so that all different kinds of people can connect and understand the meaning. The parallels between Alsan and Jesus are interesting to study although Lewis did not mean The Chronicles of Narnia or any of his books for that matter to be allegorical. Although there are many similarities between the two, they can not be compared perfectly. Aslan is just one interpretation of the beauty that is Jesus.
