Orual, your mortality represents only a brief moment in the eternity of time. I have seen your life, heard your thoughts, been privy to your jealousy and bitterness. You complain of pain and injustice, and accuse the gods of being more dangerous to mankind than poisonous toads, scorpions, or serpents. You are foolish, Orual, for your accusations of injustice demonstrate how little you understand justice.
You have become a queen, but you are still clinging, helpless, to the hope of affection. Your desire for love caused you to deliberately destroy the happiness of your sister. You saw her good fortune and hated her for it. And now you question the truth of this story! Do you not understand how it has been handed down through sacred ritual? It is you who have wrong Psyche – your possessiveness, your jealousy, your bitterness have caused you to overlook the fact that you are but mortal. Your obsessive love for Psyche caused her to lose all that she was. You condemned her to misery, because you feared what you did not understand and wanted Psyche’s love for yourself.
Be warned of the wrath of the gods! You have demonstrated your human weakness and envy. Do you intend to continue in this way? I give you another chance to take your proper place as mortal and remove the jealously that has poisoned your existence. If you fail after this, there can be no way to save you.
