Amy Jackson- An Attractive Evil

In reading the Narnia books, I noticed how the characters that were evil were the most beautiful ones. Queen Jadis, the White Witch, and the evil enchantress in The Silver Chair were all described as being physically attractive. When Edmund first meets the White Witch, he is intrigued by her. She gives him anything he wants, in his case this is Turkish Delights. This is also true in everyday life. Evil is alluring. It starts with a desire. For Edmund, it was food, specifically sweets, something he probably wouldn't be allowed to have back in the Professor's house in England. Once he is given the sweets, he is addicted. He is not satisfied and he becomes greedy. That is when he is vulnerable, at the hands of the witch. She then uses him to do what she wants. When he doesn't need him anymore she throws him in jail. James 1:14-15 says, "but each one is tempted when, by his own desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then after desire is conceived it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death." This is just what happened to Edmund. At what point does sin and evil become unattractive? For Edmund, I think it is when he realizes the effects of his sin and that he was going to die. The only one that could save him, that could pardon his deed, was Aslan. When he does it, Edmund is so grateful. The White Witch becomes his enemy and he is not lead into death.
