David Thornton - Blog Assignment (as a god)
As a god I have seen Orual grow up to be queen of Glome. I saw her and her sister with the Fox, learning Greek language and philosophy. She was gifted with a comfortable upbringing, though she was extraordinarily ugly for a mortal. Not disgusting like sewage, but annoying like a weed in a garden full of daisies. Contrary to what she may think, I literally don’t care at all what she looks like though. Even in this description I cannot help but describe more what is inside of her, in her heart and mind. Although for some reason humans don’t often do this, I could never understand why she did nothing about this. Now she is here to accuse the gods and I! Sadly, she has failed to understand the value of others in and of themselves. You would think Orual would take the faceless Ungit as a gift that she actually relate to! But instead she has dismissed Ungit as pretense and has wanted to make up her own creation of what Ungit should look life. Orual never appreciated the mystery of Ungit. She always just got caught up on the appearances! As if gods were keen on appearances! We care about what really matters, we care about that which does not die away, the soul. Though Orual deserves to be banished because of all the evils she has brought into the world, I judge her as clean, due to the nature of her newfound faith in the gods and I. For she may be ugly, inside and out, but as long as she humbly recognizes that, the gods and I will do the rest of the much necessary surgery.
