Doug Savarie-Rest

I really enjoyed the conversation we had in class about rest and what it looks like. It made be begin to think about what rest really is and whether I am more inclined to do that or to just “veg out.” To figure out the answer one must look at the differences between the two. More often than not, prior to this class, I would typically come home from a long day of classes and “rest” by sitting in front of the tv or playing video games. But the discussions we had in class made me rethink this idea. I believe that rest is more than just relaxing or doing nothing. I think it is more spiritual than that. Looking back now, I can see that personally, my periods of rest that have been most rejuvenating have not been when I come home and watch TV and do nothing, but rather, when I come home and sit in silence, read scripture or pray. For me this isn’t always something that I want to do, because I enjoy being social, but it is something I realize that I must do in order to have the energy to do what needs to be accomplished.
