The Life of C.S Lewis

C.S. Lewis did most of his growing up in life without at mother. His family life was himself, brother and father. It’s interesting to read about the ordinary aspects of his in his novel Surprised by Joy. There were only a few accounts where he actually wrote the words joy in the stories of his life. But when he did talk about joy he toiled with it; that it was something obtained through power or pleasure. As his novel goes on he realizes what joy in Christ means and describes it as a beautiful thing. I agree that people seek joy through power or pleasure. But true joy and selfless joy come from actions or gifts that are glorifying to the Lord. C.S. Lewis writes in most his books of God, and when you read them you may think that he really got it, and that his life was all together. Even if that was the case he didn’t always have it together, C.S. Lewis was like all others, who had a childhood, who had suffering, and who found joy. We can only hope that people find pure joy, that doesn’t come from one’s own selfish power or pleasure.
